Be right back
Be right back pauses a site. While it is on, nobody can sign in, and the site's web address shows an away page instead of the sign in page. Everything else about the site stays exactly as it is, and turning it off takes effect within seconds.
Use it when a site should not be answering for a while: its address became public before you were ready, a partner is between projects, or you want a quiet stretch with no sign ins to look at.
Turning it on
On the site's Overview, in How your people connect, choose Be right back. A dialog lists what happens and asks for an optional note. Confirm with Turn on Be right back.
The note is shown to visitors of your web address, in your branding. Plain text, up to 800 characters. Leave it empty and the page says only that the site is away.
Admins and tech members can do this. A tech member with a site scope can pause only the sites in it.
What visitors and clients see

The refusal carries no explanation to the client. To someone typing a password, a paused site looks like a wrong password, so tell your users if they might be surprised.
Search engines are told not to index the away page.
What keeps going
- Your Storage Connectors stay linked. Nothing is disconnected, and that is what makes turning the pause off instant.
- Scripted transfers keep running. Be right back closes the doors people sign in through. A transfer submitted by one of your Connectors' scripts, scheduled or event driven, runs exactly as before, and its traffic counts in your usage as usual.
- Your plan and billing continue. A paused site is a running site with its door closed.
- Your service level is measured as before. Our servers keep answering; only sign ins are refused. The pause is your act, not an outage, and it does not change what the month can earn. See Service level.
- Your configuration, users, domains and certificates stay as they are.
Turning it off
On the same Overview, choose Turn off on the Be right back panel and confirm. Sign ins are accepted again within seconds, and the web address serves the sign in page again.
Both switches are recorded on your Activity page, with the note.
Where it shows
The site's status reads Be right back at the top of each of its pages, on its Home page card and in the sidebar. Home carries one line for it under Needs your attention and, while the pause is on, does not warn about that site's storage connectors: a Connector you switch off during the pause is not something to fix.
Paused by you, or suspended by us
Two states refuse every sign in. They are not the same thing.

If your site is suspended, its Overview says so in a neutral state and, sometimes, carries a note from us; the reason is not shown there. Nothing is deleted. Your account stays readable and usable, and you can reach support from Get help.
A suspension outranks a pause. A paused site that is suspended reads as suspended, and goes back to paused when the suspension is lifted, until you turn the pause off yourself.
