First run
The first time you open the Connector's admin console it has no administrator, and the first run wizard walks you through three steps.
Open http://localhost:8883 on the machine the Connector runs on. If you installed with --access network, open https://<that machine>:8883 from another machine instead, and accept the self signed certificate once.
Step 1: create the administrator
This account is local to this Connector. It works offline, it is separate from your SFTP.cloud Portal team, and Syncplify has no access to it.
- A username.
- A password of at least 8 characters.
Step 2: secure your sign in
Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, or enter the secret by hand, then confirm with the six digit code.
Two step sign in is mandatory here as it is in the Portal.
Save your recovery codes
The wizard issues single use recovery codes. They are shown once. Store them away from this machine: codes kept only on the machine you are locked out of are not a recovery path.
Step 3: connect to your site
This is enrollment, and it is covered in full on its own page. In short:
- Leave the portal address as it is.
- Paste the single use enrollment code you minted in the Portal.
- Choose Connect.
You can skip this and come back to it. A Connector that is installed but not enrolled is idle: it serves nothing and links to nothing.
What you see afterwards
The dashboard, with:
| Panel | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Uplink to your site | Whether the link to your site is up, and how many storage links are up |
| Active sessions | Who is connected right now, and to which virtual file system |
| Activity | Sessions and throughput over a rolling window |
| Node health | CPU, memory, data volume usage, session counts, and this machine's connector id |
The Connector has nothing to serve yet. Continue with Virtual file systems.
Adding more administrators
On System, then Administrators. See Administrators.
At least one active administrator always remains; the last one cannot be removed or disabled.
If you lose the administrator password
There is no remote reset. This account is local and offline by design, and Syncplify cannot reach it.
Your ways back in, in order:
- A recovery code, in place of the six digit code.
- Another administrator on the same Connector, who can change your password and reset your second factor.
This is the second reason to create more than one administrator, and the first is that people take holidays.
